Film description

Based on the worldwide bestseller by Suzanne Collins, Jennifer Lawrence plays the heroic Katniss Everdeen, who takes her younger sisters place in a reality show-cum-fight to the death organised by the authoritarian Capitol. Trained by the drunken Haymitch Abernathy (Woody Harrelson) and partnered with a timid boy, Peta (Josh Hutcherson) Everdeen is a clear underdog compared to some of the better funded competitors. However, her rebellious nature and disregard for the Capitol’s corrupt morals elevate her to star of the game, becoming a symbol of resistance.

The film will be followed by a short talk from Dr Simon Hewitt, philosophy research fellow at the University of Leeds.
