Film description

Set in a provincial Kenyan village where the community’s ties are extremely close and nothing can hide from the public eye, Rafiki follows Kena and Ziki, two teenage girls who – despite the rivalries between their families and their deeply conservative community – form an inseperable bond.

Kena dreams of a nursing career, Ziki is less sure about her future, but both know that they want something more in life, something that goes beyond marriage and motherhood.

Banned it its home country for 'promoting lesbianism', this is a pioneering feature that strives to make a difference.
