It Must Be Heaven
Director Elia Suleiman, in the mode of silent comedy hero Buster Keaton, puts himself front and centre in this fresh foray into life’s absurdity. Suleiman’s style of cinema is open, droll, generous, and quizzical. Here he plays a version of himself, an internationally successful Palestinian director and global citizen. Suleiman gazes bemusedly at street life in Paris and New York, attends an awkward meeting with a producer, and navigates with the burden of ‘being Palestinian’ in all his encounters. A delight, for anyone interested in what home can mean.
