I Am Belmaya
Showtimes and location
Film description
Living in Nepal with her daughter and a traditionally overbearing husband, Belmaya rediscovers her love of photography and yearns to become a filmmaker.
Growing up in a group home, Belmaya discovered a love of photography but in response to her incessant shooting, the home locked her camera away. Eight years later she is married and living in the same oppressive atmosphere, but Belmaya decides to pick up the camera again and begin documenting her life.
Battling against tradition and her community, Belmaya takes charge of her own story and creates something truly inspiring, with the film even going on to win best documentary at both the UK Asian Film Festival and the WRPN Women's International Film Festival
