Free Romani Language Workshop
Before the screening of The Deathless Women we will be hosting a Free Romani Language Workshop, led by Juice Vamosi, a Roma language expert and translator.
All are welcome but please reserve your place by booking a free ticket.
Juice will tell some of the histories of the Romani language, its similarities to Hindi and other Indo-Aryan languages, how it evolved in different ways as people moved to or through different countries and some of the 'loan words' picked up or given. Following this, there will be a chance to ask questions, and to practise some words in various dialects.
Juice Vamosi grew up in a Roma community in Hungary and currently lives in Oldham. He is an expert in Romani dialects and has been an adviser on language and other Roma issues to many global organisations, TV channels, schools and universities. He has produced film & TV projects about Roma life and is the founder of Kaskosan, a charity whose mission is to build the capabilities, life chances and well-being of Roma communities in the UK.
You can also book a ticket for The Deathless Woman screening here.
Supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
