The Annual General Meeting is an opportunity for members of the Friends of Hyde Park Picture House to meet and find out what’s been happening within the Friends and at the cinema in general over the past twelve months as well as our hopes for the future. It is also an opportunity for members to have their say.
Members are invited to arrive from 12.30 onwards with the meeting commencing around 12.45. The meeting will be followed by a FREE buffet courtesy of local bakery That Old Chestnut and a screening at 3.00pm of the newly restored 1953 classic, Madame De... The film will be open to everyone but FREE to members.
Film Club is a very informal affair. I’ll say that from the get go. If you think you might like to come along new comers are always welcome and there is no commitment when it comes to attending future gatherings. The basic order of business is we meet to see a specific screening (though people are welcome to watch the film another day and just meet us afterwards if that’s more convenient), but there is no need to sit together or anything. I have a favourite seat and many of you may too. Mine is ideally surrounded by no other souls, living or dead. We then meet in the foyer or just outside afterwards and wander down to the Brudenell Social Club where everyone can share what they thought about the film. The films are selected not because they are the best or worst of what is around but because past experience has proved that the most interesting discussions happen around the films where opinion is a bit split. That tends to keep things a little bit more colourful.
Next Meeting: Thursday 30th May Time TBC - Mud
